Late Bloomer

Peace and Light Dolls

How the heck are ya?  Spring has sprung and my heart keeps me optimistic that this summer is going to be fantastic.  I must say that I am one of the lucky ones who doesn't suffer from severe spring time allergies. However, whatever blooms in the fall has me a sicky, post nasal drip, snotty mess so I do know what my fellow allergy suffers are experiencing, whoo whoo whoo hope you feel better Love Bugs!

Anyway, the not so clever title of my post tonight is "Late Bloomer" a two word synopsis of how my old ass has been feeling lately. Ok, ok I know I am not too old and a lot of successful people don't hit there peek until later in life. But girl lemme tell you "ain't nobody got time for that" I need to figure this mess out quick, fast and in a hurry.  You wanna know why? There are several reasons but what's on my heart tonight is all my friends are getting married, having babies, buying homes etc...(in my best pouty whiny baby voice) I want to too...  One may ask, do I want to do what they are doing because I envy something they have? No! Absolutely not. I just feel like it's "that time" for all of us. I just want to be apart of their lives (we all live so far away from each other) and girls and guys a sister can't do shit because my budget is so tight it squeaks! That's the politically correct way to say I am broke as a joke.  {I keep telling y'all I will tell you my story one day}  Now don't get me wrong all my needs are meet, I eat great everyday, I drive a nice car, I can even go out locally every now and then (everything looks ok, from the outside looking in).  But this is far from where I want to be in life.  I mean, no trips, no vacations, no hair appointments, no shoe money...Yes HUNTY, no shoe money.  I absolutely can't do shit! And it's really grinding on my damn nerves.

A convo I have with myself:
"Why are you going through this Toy",  "Um I am not exactly sure".
"Well how do you fix it,  Um I am not exactly sure about that either."

So this "Late Bloomer" is figuring out that money isn't what makes her happy but it makes financing the things that do make her happy much easier...HELLO! This "Late Bloomer" is figuring out her passion versus her purpose.  This "Late Bloomer" is figuring out that her passion doesn't have to be her primary source of income or "career".  This "Late Bloomer" absolutely must stop looking at what she can not do, and focus on what she CAN do.  This "Late Bloomer" will exhaust every opportunity to transition out of sales and into Human Resources come hell or high water.  Starting with the 2013 SHRM Atlanta Conference next week.

Another convo with myself
"Well what about my writing and my blog?"  "I love to write for fun. I love the Blogging community but as you can see I write when the spirit moves me.  When my finances loosen up a bit and I have the mental bandwidth to balance a career and my passions at the same time I will, but until then I am focusing on The Biggest Challenge first"

The bottom line is I want to have a few streams of income, but I must focus on The Biggest Challenge first because it will make obtaining the others so much easier.  I went to school for Human Resources I enjoyed my curriculum and the internship I held while pursing that degree. I want to work in HR damn it!(super pout mode) The industry feels like Fort Knox but I will prevail. I will reach my goal.

Oh and I accept love and light, positive energy, prayers, sage lighting everything good in the universe that will line up precisely for my desire to break into the Human Resources industry.  LOL!!

Bloggers, Brands and Brunch

Hey Ladies,

Fro Fashion Week came back to Atlanta for its bi-annual natural hair expo and conference.  As usual it was an awesome event that I love attending.  We talked, learned, oohed and ahhhed at the bold collections of fashion and informative hair tutorials.

It took me a while to decide what I really wanted to write about.  All the bloggers that covered the event had an opportunity to pick different topics to talk about based on what inspired them the most.  There was great shopping, workshops, natural hair product demonstrations, and free goodies galore.   The "Acid Summer" themed fashion show was amazing under a NYFW inspired white tent. The fashion was eclectic and pushed the envelope.  I enjoyed the entire weekend. But with all that being said, the Bloggers and Brands Brunch is what I want to share with you the most.

The Bloggers and Brands Brunch guest of Honor was CharyJay.  CharyJay is a natural hair diva who specializes in vlogging and working with brands doing natural hair care product reviews and fierce makeup tutorials.  She took the podium and gave all of us aspiring and established bloggers and vloggers sound advice on how to grow our brand and work with our network to reach our goals.  She also gave practical information such as where she purchased her light kit and why vloggers/bloggers may want to invest in one. CharyJay was approachable and inviting with a warm smile and sweet energy.

The brunch was packed full of female entrepreneurs who were accessible and encouraging.  Some honorable mentions that came to support are Myleik of Curlbox.  She is super cool but don't be star struck and say something lame like "I really like your Instagram book share"...guess who said that?  She will smile and nod and probably think "this fool"...lol...  Well anyway, BlackOnyx77, Tarin Boone, Jessi from JessiCurl and many more women gathered together to brunch and chat about growing our own personal brands and how brands and bloggers go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Oh you ain't know?  Well now you do!
